The Reality

GP training in Ireland is competitive.
You deserve preparation that matches.

Every year, hundreds of qualified doctors compete for a limited number of GP training places — and your selection score is what separates you from your first-choice scheme. Yet most prepare with scattered, second-hand resources and no way to know if any of it is working.

Scarcity is the reality. Preparation is the answer.

Focus Where It Matters

Here's where to focus your energy

Whether you have 2 months or 6, the ICGP selection score is weighted the same. Spend your hours where the marks are.

For every 10 hours of study, here's where they should go

5 hrs
SJT · 50%
4 hrs
Interview · 40%
1 hr
CPST · 10%

Most candidates over-study clinical questions and under-prepare the SJT. Don't make that mistake.

0%
SJT

The largest factor in your selection score. Master the principles, practise the scenarios, understand the logic behind every ranking. This is where GP Journey starts.

0%
Interview

Makes or breaks your scheme placement. Only for those who pass SJT in November. Structured prep, interview methods, roleplay scenarios, and a live simulator to build exam-ready confidence.

0%
CPST

Lower weighting, but a missed opportunity if neglected. 500+ questions with detailed explanations for every option. Build clinical confidence systematically.

Try It Yourself

See for yourself: try a real SJT scenario.

You are an intern on a surgical ward. A 58-year-old man is scheduled for an elective hernia repair tomorrow morning. You are asked by the ward nurse to obtain his consent for the procedure. You have not performed this operation before and are not familiar with the technical details of the procedure or its specific risks and complications.

Click each option in the order you would rank them: most appropriate first (1), least appropriate last (5). Click a ranked option again to remove its rank.

A Obtain consent from the patient yourself, using information from the internet to guide the discussion.
B Tell the nurse you are unable to obtain consent and ask her to do it instead.
C Inform your registrar or consultant that you are not in a position to obtain consent for this procedure and ask them to arrange for it to be done appropriately.
D Obtain consent from the patient but document that you were unsure of the procedural details.
E Ask the patient to sign the consent form and tell him the surgeon will explain the details in the morning.

Questions

Have questions? We've got answers.

Yes, GP Journey is structured to be eligible for HSE TSS. Many Irish hospitals have approved it through this scheme. Check with your training lead: it takes 30 seconds and could mean free access. Learn more about the process →
Yes. The SJT and CPST formats are consistent across all Irish GP schemes. Our content aligns with ICGP selection standards, and our scheme ranking tool covers all 13 active schemes across Ireland. See all supported schemes →
Yes. Most users start 4–8 weeks before the October exam. Our system prioritises the areas that matter most: SJT receives the most focus since it carries 50% of your selection score. Focused, structured preparation beats months of unfocused study.
Books are generic and often outdated. YouTube is unstructured. GP Journey gives you Ireland-specific SJT principles, 500+ CPST questions with full reasoning explanations, weak point tracking, and a personalised plan, all in one platform built around the actual ICGP exam format.
No problem. The free tier lets you start immediately with no credit card. Late start? Upgrade sooner, focus harder. The platform is built for busy doctors: short, targeted sessions that fit around a full clinical workload. Start free now →
It depends what you're using. If your current platform lacks Ireland-specific SJT principles, weak-point analytics, or a structured scheme ranking tool, GP Journey fills significant gaps. Most users find the free tier tells them everything they need to know in under 10 minutes, no commitment required.
Repeaters are actually a strong fit. You already know the exam format; the gap is usually in specific SJT reasoning patterns or CPST topic areas. GP Journey's weak-point analysis zeroes in on exactly where you lost marks last time, so you're not repeating preparation that already worked.
Most users see meaningful improvement with 30–60 minutes a day over 6–8 weeks. Sessions are designed to fit around a full clinical workload: a 15-minute SJT scenario block between shifts, a 20-minute CPST set in the evening. No marathon sessions required.
